I shot this this trophy buck the second season in December in Peoria County, Edelstein IL. I shot him with a Mossberg 695 bolt action.
I hunt on 17 acres that is surrounded by large areas of timber along with corn and bean fields. I new this deer was in the area last year because of the size of rubs and scrapes he left, but never had seen him. I started bow hunting again in the fall of 2004 and one day when I got down from my stand, I was walking around a field into the wind and came within 20 feet of the big boy right at the start of the rut. Needles to say we were both startled, All I seen was the hugh neck and large antlers bouncing down through the 4 foot tall grass. I continued to see signs that he was still there and he was getting very aggressive with the trees and brush. The first shotgun season I didn't see a thing. On the 3rd day of the second season on a saturday morning at about 7;30 I just finished drinking a cup of coffee and I looked down to my right and saw a doe in the field and just to her right there he was.

This buck field dressed out at 180 Ibs. They estimated he probably would have been 220/230 at the beginning of the rut. He had 15 measurable points. the DNR of Illinois counted 16 due to one small questionable 1'' point on a brow tine. I had him scored by an official Boone and Crockett scorer at the 2005 Deer and Turkey classics in Bloomington. He grossed     186 4/8 and a final score 164 6/8 Typical. His inside spread was 22 3/8 with the outside spread 25 4/8. His G-3's measured 11 0/8 and 11 7/8.
